At 3pm on Junn 29th ,2016, Wu Yuanhua, a visiting professor from department Nanyang Technological University in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences addressed the Public Affairs and MPA Forum. He gave a wonderful academic lecture about how to run a small country like Singapore.
The Forum was hosted by professor Zhu Renxian. At first, Zhu introduced professor Liu briefly: he was a the senior editor of The Straits Times, the chief editor of Shin Min Daily News,and alsothe deputy chief editor of Lianhe Zaobao, at the same time, professor Wu joined the society and cultural and educational activities and participated actively in activities for several government departments and public consultation agencies. At present, he is the executive vice president of Chinese International Culture Association. He is often invited to make special reportsto domestic and overseas universities. He has extremelyextremely high academic attainments. His new book named Good Governance of Singapore, has been published by China Social Sciences Publishing House.
At the beginning, Wu Yuanhua explained that the Chinese government had sent officials many times in 1992 to study how to run a country.He pointed out why such a small country as Singapore had attracted such a the big country as China. Then, he illustrated the ways of good governance of Singapore. He separated the main contents into nine parts: the history of Singapore, the geopolitics and ethnic compositions, various nations and regions of the country,the ruling idea of People’s Action Party, the core public policy of People’s Action Party. Li Guangyao, the former president of Singapore, denied the policies of western liberality and democracy. Singaporean should see the society of Singapore more positively. The death of Li Guangyao won’t stop the advance of Singapore. The audience knows more about the governance of Singapore.
At the question and answer session, teachers and many students asked some questions and whether the future of Singapore is influenced profoundly because of the death of Li Guangyao, the future successor of Singapore, the regions and education of Singapore and how should the freedom of the press be regarded. Professor Wu answered the questions objectively and impressed teachers and students deeply. At last, this lecture ended with the hearty applause.
